Following the project's huge achievement in qualifying ten athletes from nine countries for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World Triathlon Education and Development is delighted to be preparing to build a new team with its eyes on even greater success at the LA 2028 Olympics.
The target group will be athletes in the top 220 of the World Triathlon Ranking born no earlier than 1998 and from developing National Federations in Groups 2, 3B or 3A, who have already shown promising results at a World Cup or Continental Cup level and are targeting LA 2028.
For 2025, four World Triathlon Cup races across three continents have been chosen as Team World Triathlon events: Samarkand (UZB), Huatulco (MEX), Valencia (ESP) and Tongyeong (KOR). Applications for Samarkand and Huatulco are now open and the form can be found here.
'The incredible stories behind the athletes' journeys to Paris 2024 underline just how important the Team World Triathlon project is for growing our sport in regions where national funding opportunities are hard to come by,' said World Triathlon President Antonio F. Arimany. 'There isn't anything in world sport quite as powerful as the Olympic Games, for the athletes targeting a place and their nations supporting them. We are hugely excited to see what the new Team can produce for the LA 2028 Olympic cycle and what those stories and achievements will be.'
Successful candidates will receive financial support to travel to the race plus four nights of accommodation. Team members will also have access to expert coaching and mechanical assistance on the ground, as well as the more intangible benefits that being part of a team at a World Cup event can bring.
